Unnati is a vocational training and social transformation program being run by the not-for-profit organization SGBS Trust in Bangalore since 2003.
Unnati, an initiative of SGBS Trust, was started in Oct 2003 with the purpose of enabling underprivileged, unemployed youth to get employment. The motto of Unnati: ‘Learn, Earn, and Stand tall,’ is aimed not only to enable these youths to become ‘employable’ and engage in a gainful job, but also to transform them into responsible citizens for our country.
Through Unnati, from conception up to May 2010, one-thousand and ninety-three (1093) underprivileged youths have been trained and employed. These youths come from Below Poverty Line (BPL) families across the State and other parts of India. The key feature of this program is that 100% of the youth trained by Unnati leave with a job in hand with a reputed Company at the end of the training.
Unnati provides the youth with training, materials, food, bus passes, and accommodation for outstation youth. The program is offered free of cost to the youths. The unique feature of the Unnati program is that, apart from the core vocation, the youth are trained in Life skills, Computer skills, values and spoken English. This empowers them in a wholesome manner to take on the realities of practical life.
